Team Activation
The point at which a collaborative product has been adopted by enough members of a team to become embedded in the group’s shared workflow. Individual activation — a single user experiencing value — is necessary but insufficient for collaborative tools; the trial‑to‑paid bridge is strongest when multiple team members have built shared dependencies on the product. Team activation is often triggered by a specific event, such as a third team member joining, a tenth shared project being created, or a threshold number of collaborative actions being logged. Upsell prompts tied to team activation convert at higher rates than those tied to calendar dates, because the team collectively recognizes the product’s value and the constraint imposed by the free tier.
Example: Figma’s free tier allows up to three team projects; when a team hits that limit, the upgrade prompt is not a sales pitch but a response to demonstrated, team‑wide adoption of the product.
