Replenishment Mindset
The mental state of a customer who has recognized that a consumable product is running low and is actively or subconsciously preparing to reorder. In a replenishment mindset, the customer is already primed to consider purchases in that category, making them disproportionately receptive to relevant upsells, cross‑sells, and quantity upgrades. The mindset is triggered by the approach of a predicted depletion date, which can be estimated from cohort analysis of purchase intervals. Offers that arrive during the replenishment mindset feel like timely assistance; offers that arrive after the customer has already restocked elsewhere feel like irrelevant spam. The timing of the offer relative to the mindset is a first‑order determinant of conversion.
Example: A pet food brand sends a refill reminder email at day 26 for a 28‑day consumption cycle, including a complementary treat offer, capturing the customer in a replenishment mindset before they start searching competitors.
