Predictive Replenishment Engine
A system, typically automated, that uses cohort data and individual purchase histories to forecast when a customer will need to reorder a consumable product. The engine calculates a depletion date based on the quantity purchased, the typical consumption rate for that customer segment, and any adjustments signaled by the customer’s own behavior (skipping deliveries, ordering ahead of schedule). The predictive replenishment engine triggers a reminder or an offer shortly before the predicted date, capturing the customer in a replenishment mindset and creating a natural moment for a complementary upsell.
Example: Amazon Subscribe & Save uses a predictive replenishment engine to suggest delivery frequency adjustments and complementary products when a customer manages their subscriptions.
