Identity Signal
The implicit message a tier name, product badge, or subscription label sends about the kind of person who chooses it. An “Enterprise” plan signals scale and stability; a “Pro” badge signals expertise and earning. Identity signals operate beneath conscious deliberation. They are processed rapidly and color the evaluation of everything that follows — price, feature list, testimonials. An identity signal that aligns with the customer’s desired self‑image increases willingness to pay and reduces price sensitivity. One that conflicts or is absent leaves the purchase as a purely utilitarian transaction.
Example: A freelancer choosing a “Pro” plan on a portfolio platform is not just buying features but purchasing a public signal of professionalism that clients will see.
