Hana, weekend baker and market vendor
I make sourdough and pastries and sell them on Saturdays at the local market. I also take orders through a very basic website my nephew built. I didn't think a book about "upsell architecture" was for me — architecture sounds like buildings — but a friend insisted.
I read the chapter on timing. It described a customer who just paid and then gets hit with an offer and immediately closes it. That's my customer. I used to put a "add a cookie box" pop-up right after they paid for their bread order. People ignored it. After reading, I moved that offer to the email I send the night before pickup, when they're probably thinking about their Saturday morning and feeling excited. Now they add the cookies. It's not a huge change, but I sell maybe 15% more cookies.
The other thing I used was from the chapter about naming. I had a "Large" bread subscription and a "Small" one. I changed them to "Family Baker's Box" and "Daily Loaf." The Family one started selling more. It feels silly that a name made a difference, but it did.
I skipped the technical chapters. The ones I read were worth the money.
